英語を始めた理由
講師:
What are your goals and objectives for learning English?
よしの:
Well, for learning English, it’s totally, actually my hobby.
I don’t study English so hard. I just like to talk with people, and basically I’m talkative in Japanese, so that’s why I like to speak with people in English too. English is a very convenient tool for talking with people in the world.
講師:
Yeah.
That’s true. So you just like having conversations with people. Is that the… Yeah.
よしの:
Well, first of all, why I started to study English was actually traveling.
I like visiting ancient monuments. I’m very, very interested in history.
That’s why I like traveling and I really want to visit old buildings, monuments and places.
講師:
Yeah.
よしの:
Group tours are not comfortable for me.
講師:
You mean group with other Japanese people or with foreigners?
よしの:
Why I don’t want to join a group tour is the schedule of tour is usually hard or tough.
講師:
Yeah. Yeah. I know those organized tours, they’re very like rigid with the times,
よしの:
Yeah, it’s kind of strict. Mm -hmm.
It’s understandable because, you know, it’s for reducing waste time and it’s easy to get the right place and move to the other place.
But for me, yeah, a group tour, I’m not so interested. So, I wanted to travel alone, I decided, and I started studying English.
講師:
I totally understand what you mean. Like those tours, they can be great, but then at the same time, it’s almost like you’re just ticking off things. Okay, we go here, we see this for a little bit.
よしの:
Yeah.
講師:
And then we go to this place, and then this place, and it’s how many you can do in a short amount of time.
You don’t really have time to sort of really get to know a place, absorb it, take your time. It’s very rushed.
よしの:
When I travel alone I realized the feeling, like I enjoy myself. Sometimes I get lost. But it’s also fun.
And during traveling, basically, I ask myself. How do I want? How do I get there?
Or how should I do if I want to do?
講師:
I love the planning. I love that. Some people don’t like, they get stressed.
They want someone else to do it. They want someone else to say, okay, you go here at 10 a .m. Okay. I think you and I, we’re different.
I want to go when I want to go, when I feel ready. If I want to spend extra time here, I can. If I want to change my mind and go here or get lost or whatever. Yeah. It’s much more fun, I think. So, I agree with you 100%. Yeah.
But everyone’s different, I guess.
よしの:
Yeah.
